A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on  ~John F. Kennedy

History is like a road map. We can’t find our way somewhere new unless we know where we are now. History tells us where we are, how we got there, and with any luck, how to get where we want to go. It's everything that's ever happened to anybody--and it's the story of how people not unlike us said and did things that changed the world.

Welcome to Gaffney High School and my 2011-12 website for United States History!

My hope is that this website will keep you apprised of what we are doing in your son's or daughter's U.S. History class here at GHS. This course will cover the history of the United States from 1607 to the present.  Lessons learned from history can be applied through practical application today.  Students can expect to make connections from the past to understand the present and make predictions about the future.  You will see how you are a part of history and the importance of citizenship.  It is vital to understand that you do have a role and purpose in our society.

I hope this web site is helpful to all who choose to use it.  It is designed to supplement classroom instruction so you will be able to view all lesson presentations, videos, etc, and obtain class work and homework from this site. The class is designed to be informative and challenging, with a state EOC at the end of the course to test your knowledge.

I am available by appointment for any questions that you, your son, or your daughter might have as we proceed through our course of study but to insure a faster response you may contact me through the link provided below. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Sincerely,
George Duncan, Social Studies Department, Gaffney High School
